Bantam Girls 3rd win over the OS Ice Hawks
(posted). Written by Kailey Gyles. The Georgian Shores Lightning Scenic Caves girl’s bantam hockey team hosted the Owen Sound Ice Hawks at the Meaford Arena again on Friday, Nov 28.  Joren Wilcox opened the scoring early into the game for the Lightning with a booming shot from the point.

Less than a minute later the Ice Hawks tied the game.  The game was end to end with many shots by both teams.  The game remained tied until late in the second period when Wilcox scored her 2nd goal of the game.  Ten seconds later, the Ice Hawks tied it up.  Thirteen seconds later, Payton Weir of the Lightning scored the go ahead goal to end the 2nd period 3-2.  Wilcox opened the third with her 3rd goal of the game to give the Lightning a 4-2 lead.  Owen Sound did not give up and scored a power play goal mid-way through the 3rd to cut the lead to 4-3.  Lightning’s Karissa Bowins scored a power play goal later in the 3rd making the score 5-3.  Kailey Gyles added an insurance goal late in the game for a final score of 6-3.  This completed a 3 game sweep for the Lightning over Owen Sound.

The Lightning travelled to Chatsworth for a game against the Rebels on Sunday, November 30.  The Rebels got to work early scoring 40 seconds into the game.  Both teams fired many shots with many of them blocked by the defence.  Devyn Cochrane took the puck the distance of the ice to set up Payton Weir to tie the game at 1-1.  The Rebels out shot the Lightning 14-4 in the 2nd period leaving the Lightning on the defensive with little offence.  The Lightning held them off until late in the 2nd when the Rebels went ahead 2-1.  Midway through the 3rd the Lightning had a bad bounce to put them down 3-1.  With 3-1/2 minutes left, Wilcox set up Gyles in a 2 on 1 to cut the Rebels lead to 3-2.  With both teams down a player in the penalty box and just over a minute left, the Lightning pulled their goalie for a 5 on 4 advantage.  The Lightning fired many shots over the last minute, but could not tie the game as time expired.

The Lightning travel this Friday, December 5 to Mount Forest to take on the Rams.
