Bantam girls back with a FLASH!
(submitted) Written by Kailey Gyles. The Girl’s Georgian Shores Lightning Scenic Caves bantam hockey team took on the Rebels in Chatsworth on Sunday, February 1.   The first period started slow with both team’s defense limiting shots on goal until late in the period.  The Lightning’s Karissa Bowins of Meaford took a powering shot which deflected off the stick of the Rebels’ defense into the net to score a shorthanded goal to take a 1-0 lead.

40 seconds later the Rebels took advantage of the power play and tied the game 1-1.   With 27 seconds left in the period, Makenna Giles of Clarksburg, got a breakaway and scored a top shelf goal to put the Lightning back in the lead 2-1.  Early in the second period, Jacinta Peters of Collingwood, passed back to the point and Giles released a booming shot to find the back of the net giving the Lightning a 3-1 lead.  Lightning goaltender, Meagan Swanson of Meaford, stopped all 14 shots in the second period to hold the lead at 3-1.  Shots were minimal in the third period by both teams.  But with 2:24 left in the game, the Rebels got a shot away that beat Swanson to bring them within one.  The Rebels pulled their goaltender for the extra attacker with no success.  The Lightning put the game away with 36 seconds left when Payton Weir of Ravenna scored an empty net goal to seal the win at 4-2.  The Lightning will continue on the road this week when they travel to West Grey on Wednesday and Mt. Forrest on Friday.  This win is just what the Lightning needed going into the Provincial Playdowns in 2 weeks.
